Black Jacket Affair

Don't miss Ange telling us about her Plank Project...
today at

Not sure if I showed you my latest vintage petticoat...
black layers of tulle with a little pink edging...
oo la la!

I've paired it with a beautiful black Victorian jacket in wonderful condition which I found last week on the way home from the lake.
It is a tiny size and in fact, is too small for this dress form.
I will have to try it on Talulah Rose...
...who, with her tiny waste... has more of a Victorian figure.

 I love all the details...
the tucks and buttons and slightly tattered lace at the collar.

I'm heading north again for the weekend and am hoping to spend a day in Warrensburg for the town wide yard sale.
This event is not the same fabulous hunting grounds it was 15 to 20 years ago but you might remember that I did find some fun things there last October.

I had the privilege of interviewing my dear friend Ange from Signed by Ange about her awe inspiring project...
Positive Planks

If you have the time on Friday, pop over to Kim Klassen's
I think you will be amazed and totally inspired by Ange's talent, generosity and beautiful spirit!

Thrifting All The Way Home

Tomorrow we head out of the mountains.

The plan is to start early in order to have time to stop at some of my favorite junk shops, thrift stores and antique centers.

I need to be home in time to fix a nice dinner for Mr. Flea.
He misses me.
:)

In addition to antique shops and junk stores, I will be on the lookout for farm stands that might have some white pumpkins for sale...
...although it is a few weeks early.

Hopefully I won't become too distracted treasure hunting!
Evi has recommended a few new places for me to try...

You just never know what you might find!
Isn't it exciting?
:)

Goodbye September lake!
We will be back soon to enjoy the autumn colors...

I hope your week is going well.

Evi's Fall Schedule of Shows

The textile artist and designer, Evi Araujo has done it again! My dear friend and talented doll-maker will be exhibiting her newest creations at two shows this November.

The little "make-do" pictured above is set upon an antique hog scraper...the black crow and miniature pumpkin pin cushions were all designed and lovingly hand stitched and embroidered by the artist.
... And what about those little spiders you ask? Created and stitched by Evi ... formed from little balls of silk! So clever!
(please excuse the reflections...I took a "photo of her photo" as my scanner is not working!)

Nestled in amongst my white pumpkins, set upon the old tobacco netting, is a photograph of another creative product of Evi's imagination....
...hold on a minute now....

The first of the shows at which Evi will be participating is the Fall Craft Show in Paramus, N.J.
... I am hoping to attend and plan to take pictures to share...

Recently, Evi and her handsome husband Eb took a day trip to NYC and visited Tinsel Trading Company. Besides buying some wonderful vintage ribbon and accessories to use in her creations.....Evi found inspiration in the wonderful displays in the store window.

She returned home full of ideas and pulled out her old dress form (Hester).... put an antique silk jacket on her, draped old netting around her shoulders and fastened a spider web in the center. Then she took a black paper shopping bag and fashioned a crow's head to top it off!

With curled paper and buttons at her throat and an inverted black and white paper cone as a hat...Hester looks fetching with Little Trouble at her feet and CawCaw, her pet crow close at hand. Little Trouble is an unsigned pumpkin doll that Evi found on an antiquing trip out in Pennsylvania last year. Too cute!

The next show will be on November 14th and 15th and is sponsored by the Wilton Historical Society. This is a very high quality show with many of the best artists and craftsmen (and women) from around the country. I look forward to it each year as there are many beautiful objets d'art on display and I always come home with a treasure or two!
... and it gives me the opportunity to share lunch and spend some time with the girls!
If you are going to be in the area, you will want to be sure not to miss this event.
I will look for you there!

The Wedding of Talulah Rose

Her wedding day had finally arrived!
...(click images to enlarge so you don't miss any details!)

Talulah Rose woke up the morning of her wedding to a crystal clear beautiful autumn day...

She took her time dressing for her special day...

But when she was ready .... she was stunning in her bridal veil of gossamer tobacco netting...

...and her tiara of grape vines and creamy white tallow berries...

The train of her translucent gown fell into a pool of pale white femininity at the base of her rusty wire and iron stand...

Her wedding jewels were both borrowed and old...very old...

Talulah's bouquet consisted of faded pale pink hydrangeas...

So lovely resting on her delicate bridal veil...

She was a vision to behold...

It was a perfect wedding...everything she ever dreamed of...

Thank you for joining Talulah Rose on her special day...and for playing along with me...
...this is the way I like to celebrate Halloween...
Have fun celebrating your way!
