Thrift Finds Turn Into DIY Projects

I know I promised myself not to buy anything bigger than a breadbox....

...but when I saw this chair...

and it was free...

...I simply couldn't resist taking on a DIY project.

A little carpenter's glue for the loose joints and some white paint...
...perhaps a bit of glazing and a good cleaning for the perfectly faded blue velvet cushion.

What do you think?

And how about this?

Don't you just love a little touch of industrial mixed in?

Check out those feet!
It is mobile but the casters can be locked in place with a lever under the table.

A good cleaning is all this needs!

Function over form....form over function...
...this freebie satisfies both ways of thinking.

Now I just have to get these two thrifty finds cleaned up before Mr. Flea gets back up here to the lake!

Luckily I have my Dad to help me with the gluing and clamping!
(My partner in crime...er I mean grime!)

Hope you are having a nifty thrifty weekend!

Slim Pickins and a Whatsit

I had to really dig this week to come up with a few treasures...
( this tiny silver shovel is a wee 3 inches!)

But first... I found this blue metal parts shelf last fall before we closed up the lake house for the winter....and I found it again last month when we opened the place up.
After this picture was taken...
I cleaned it up and am now using it to hold crafty supplies on the porch...

Here are twelve vintage red tulip embroidered linen napkins...stitched together...
...I don't think they were ever used...
... and a few lace doilies that I found at the local thrift store.

...also, this graceful plated candelabra, a pretty blue Leotric mason jar and a tin funnel.

...clean and starched doily snowflakes

The keys to my heart.

Vintage crochet trims...
Silver Bella?

...an old store price or sign holder?
...maybe I can use it for an old photo or art piece display or to hold a recipe card...

I can never pass up an old velvet box....with satin lining no less..
...not sure what it held originally...
A music holder to be creatively adapted and a vintage magnifying glass...

Loved the graphics on this old cleanser can...

Isn't this the sweetest little butter pat ever?
I had to adopt it.

And here is the Whatsit...

1. Can you guess was it used for?

2. What would you use it for now?

...and those are my slim pickings for this week....
Tomorrow is the big annual rummage sale that we all look forward to each year...
... I wonder what is to be had there this year...
I will report back promptly!

Have a good night...
We are headed out to Beef and Burgundy at the local Inn...
...and tomorrow family and friends start arriving!

Thrift Store Finds

This is the time of year that I start to really miss my flea markets and yard sales...
Yesterday, during my lunch hour, I found a few things at the thrift store ...
...A pretty German hand painted peacock plate...
($2.00)

...a crocheted tablecloth and eight white damask napkins...
($5 for both)

a pretty etched glass jar with a silver topped cork stopper...
($2.00)

...a sweet white vase....love the ruffle top...
($1.00)

Set of books from the 20's....great pictures...maps....etc.
($2.50 for set)

...and I don't have a great picture of the whole garment...
...but this is a closeup of a pullover Italian wool sweater coat with attached hood and scarf...
It was $8... a bit funky with 3/4 length sleeves...it goes down to my knees and it fits!
(one size fits all)
I plan to wear it with boots and a black turtleneck...
(Maybe I will have Talulah Rose model it for you...)

Not too bad! At least, not too bad for a January thrifting lunch hour!
Wouldn't you say?
:)
