touch of the unexpected

I was first drawn to this home due to it being location in Madrid, where we will be spending two days book ending our trip to Italy. Then I could not help but be drawn in my the amazing and incredibly unique textures that are layered throughout. I have truly never seen anything like these interior sliding screen doors....

...or sea fans applied to a mirror.

And yes I know that tile is common in kitchens, but floor to ceiling tile throughout the entire room--I think not.

It just goes to show that even the most unconventional idea can create lovely visual interest and elements. What is the most unique textural element you have seen used in interior design?

eye candy {playful restraint}

It is always fascinating to see the homes of interior design professionals (like the one of Susan Hornbeak Ortiz, owner of Shine by S.H.O.) and see which colors, trends, textures, styles and textiles they choose as they are so immersed in the world on a daily basis. Susan shows great restraint in her home. It is not overdecorated and features unique textures and touches--from the cabinetry details, perfect peacock color palette, studding on furniture and whimsical lighting.
