simple design with shine

Simple is sometimes best but I am always an advocate for a little twist with clean and simple design--just a little something that sets the room apart. These kitchens are clean, modern and chic with a little twist that makes the divine--high gloss surfaces.

craving {rustic butcher block}

Although not having to cook for two weeks while on vacation was a treat I am quite happy to be back in the kitchen tonight--actually making tortilla soup to try and quell the sore throat I fear jet lag has brought on. However, I would love being in my kitchen even more if I had one of these lovely butcher block tables to prepare my dinner on...

loving (dark + weathered}

There are many items on my list of dream house "must haves" but lately a kitchen full of weathered and dark wood if climbing to the top of the list!

and I am off...

Today is the day that we finally depart for our European adventure! Although our final destination is Italy we will be spending the first day in Madrid and thought it was only appropriate to share some inspiration from my favorite Spanish interior design magazine, nuevo estilo, to get me in the mood! I definitely wouldn't mind enjoying tapas in either of these dining areas...

And although I will be spending some time away from the computer (or trying) I do have some posts lined up for while I am away!

a modern cave

A modern cave--sounds like an oxymoron but it this particular "cave" is just that! The rough stone and terra cotta tile are a lovely backdrop for the modern fixtures, furniture and hardware. There is there something so nostalgic and refreshing about this eat in kitchen and I am stunned by the way the room is anything but dark. Truly an inspiring and natural space.

hot tin {ceiling}

When I first glanced at this room I thought it looked very functional but nothing spectacular and then I looked at the ceiling in the kitchen--an ornate tin (I think) panel that makes this space anything but ordinary. I adore tin tiles and think it is such an unexpected way to define the kitchen area and juxtapose the sleek lines in the space.

kitchen crush {a fresh start}

If you have been reading delight by design for a while you will know that I have a love of neutral palettes, open shelving, and simple styling--which is why these two kitchens have stolen my heart. They also both happen to feature a little bit of a twist on in kitchen dining, from the bench seating in this one...

....to separate and symmetrical placement of eating and prep islands of this one.

kitchen crush {a grand scale}

When listing the qualities of an ideal kitchen rarely do "high ceilings" find the way on the list. After finding this charming kitchen full of modern touches I wonder why. The exposed chimney is the perfect visual cue to draw your eye up and show off the grand scale of this kitchen...

grasscloth + chandeliers

This kitchen is full of unexpected touches. The grasscloth wall covering adds warmth and the illusion of a metallic backdrop while the backsplash flawlessly ties the warmth of the walls with the glamour of the twin chandeliers.

quaint kitchen crush

I am about to pop out the door for a holiday party in wildly inappropriate shoes for our current weather (oh well) but before I do I had to share this downright charming and cozy kitchen. Something about the holidays and cold weather makes me crave rustic and simple spaces just like this one.

kitchen crush {sleek and functional}

It has been a while since I have posted about my fascination with eat-in kitchens, perhaps because none have piqued my fancy lately. I tend to love bright kitchens but the combination of the white ceiling adds a sense of airiness to the slate and wood palette. No wonder Canadian House and Home named it kitchen of the year.

kitchen inspiration {industrial chic}

There is something quite sensible about industrial kitchen style. It only seems appropriate that the clean lines of the cookware used in the room is mimicked in the design. However, as with most industrial looks it can also look cold and severe. These two kitchens are great examples of how adding certain elements can temper this.

The addition of the worn wood accents in the floor and the column instantly add warmth and charm, as do the visually interesting light fixtures. I actually can't stop thinking about the pendant fixture in the above image and have added this similar one from the Kara Mann showroom to my wish list!

barstool envy

I have to admit that I have a secret desire to be a food network host. I love entertaining and cooking under the observation of friends, while hopefully carrying on an enjoyable conversation. However, I do wish I could seat my guests at the bar overlooking the stove top in these lovely chairs and under such unique lighting.

loving {seaglass tinged kitchens}

Do you have a color that no matter how tired or unattractive you feel that by putting it on you feel instantly better? For me it has always been turquoise. It makes me feel instantly energized and the same hold true when this color is added to a room. There is nothing remotely boring or drab about the look it helps create.

kitchen crush {clean lines+perfect pieces}

When I saw this kitchen I gasped. The clean lines and organic accessories are the perfect pair. Not to mention the beautiful tiling behind the stove, interesting doorway arch and the unique choice of seating options. Sigh...

eat-in kitchen {industrial chic}

Industrial fixtures can come across as cold and stark and it is difficult to find the right rooms for the look to work in well. The kitchen is one space that can take a sleek industrial look especially when mixed with other styles, such as vintage:

There are not many things more perfect than the pairing of white subway tile and simple design in a kitchen. Always fresh, lovely and inviting...

eye candy {lovely layering}

I am always on the look out for unique kitchen features and I just found a new favorite-- layering of three different patterns of stone work. Especially love when they are in the same color family.

So simple yet so incredibly elegant--a perfect combination!

magnificent + multifunctional

I love open living/dining/kitchen areas. These spaces creates the perfect stage for the casual entertainer. I like many of my friends love being able to be working at the stove, be social with guests and keep an eye on empty wine glasses. I know that I would love to be hosting our next sushi night in this inviting space.

The color palette is welcoming, the accessories thoughtful and the attention to detail exquisite.
