Spring Zinc

It's a good thing I took pictures of  the lilacs and flowering trees while the sun was still shining last week...
...because, by the time the torrential rains end this weekend
 the blossoms will be gone.
Such a fleeting but always inspiring time of year...

The forecast is for clearing weather by Saturday ...
...just in time for the sale at Paula's home in Centerbrook, CT....

I have been dragging out the zinc pots and containers....
...still have to find all those watering cans.

Trying to decide what to bring to sell.
Can't keep it all!

Hope you are having a good and productive week...
decisions, decisions!

Family Lilacs

I look forward to our lilacs all year.
Today they were glorious in the spring sunshine.

I just had to share them with you.
Hope your week is going well!

May Day

Today is May Day!
...a very special day in our family
as Kate was born on May 1st...

The prettiest time of the year for a birthday!

All my favorite blossoms were in bloom in our yard
when I brought my sweet baby girl home.

She's one of a kind!
My Mom called Kate...her golden girl.
A beautiful girl...making her way in this world.
We are very proud of her.

I found this picture of Kate when she was about 4...
playing "pirate princess" with her big brother.
It captures her determined spirit!

Starla is really Kate's cat...
...although she remains at home with Mr. Flea and me
as Kate's life in Manhattan is a bit too much for her.
Starla is saying...
Happy Birthday Kate...come home and visit me!

Our lilacs have bloomed today...
just as they did 25 years ago...
...the day Katharine Grace was born.

My Mother's deep purple double French lilacs,
My grandmother's lavender lilacs and
 Mr. Flea's grandmother's white lilacs.

Happy Birthday Kate!
Happy May Day!

Almost!

A few more days and our lilacs will be spectacular!

Our Japanese cherry tree will be in full bloom
with hundreds of soft pink petals...

...and the white and pink dogwoods lining the driveway
 will be glorious!

Almost!

Don't you just love this time of year?

Three Lilacs

Can you stand a few more pictures of my lilacs?
We are so fortunate to have my grandmother's lilacs from her farmhouse, my mother's double French lilacs and several white lilacs as well.

I cut some to bring inside...
All three varieties in one zinc container...

Their fragrance is so familiar...

...and brings lovely memories to mind.

Couldn't resist using my White Lilac Coffee Tin again this year...

I think that lilacs are such an old fashioned but very feminine flower...
...and look forward to these family heirlooms blooming each spring!

Well the weekend is here!
Mr. Flea is hoping to get some projects started and yard work done...

I was hoping to...well, you know what I was hoping to do!
How about you?
Do you have any exciting plans?
What's going on this weekend in your neighborhood?

Bit of Pretty

I'm so enjoying all the spring blossoms in the yard...

...floating a few petals with a piece of pink quartz...

...a pretty hand painted porcelain plate...

...found it in the bottom of the cupboard in the dining room...
...forgot I had it...in fact...
at the moment... I can't remember when and where it came from!

This sweet little pitcher belonged to my grandmother...
...I think of her in her farmhouse kitchen whenever I look at it.

Found this forlorn tiny pink, white and gold trimmed cup sans its saucer at the flea market this week...
...just a quarter...
...adopted it.

"Think of me"...

...at home!

Cleaning out...trying to reduce clutter...
...not making much progress thus far, but persevering!

Think of me...
...being able to go outside
in the spring
...during the day!

Think of me smiling!
Hope you are too!

Lilac Inspired Luncheon

As Mr. Flea left for work this morning...he gave me a kiss and asked what I had planned for the day...
...Oh, I was full of plans...they involved clearing the dining room table of all my stuff so we could actually sit down and have dinner....

After he drove off, I took Big Blue, as usual filled to the brim with steaming hot coffee and walked out back to see the lilacs which are now in full bloom.

I breathed deep...taking in their heady fragrance...

I gazed up at the clear beautiful blue sky with complete gratitude...
...and that's when it hit me...

I was lilac-ly inspired....
Back inside, I hunted down Nana's old white pitcher...

...the next thing you know I was setting the table...

...wouldn't Talulah Rose and Mildred Grace love to have luncheon out here by the lilac stand?

...an old fabric remnant...some lace hankies...some pretty glasses from Anthropologie...
...I even penned a few place cards for the girls as these delicate glasses are also place card holders...

...some mismatched tarnished silver and milk glass...

Oh...this was fun!

Where did the morning go?
I was all set to dress the girls for their afternoon affair when Mr. Flea arrived home for lunch.
Caught in the act!
He doesn't usually come home during the day...
Do you think he was checking up on me?

I'm really liking being home.
:)
