May Day

Today is May Day!
...a very special day in our family
as Kate was born on May 1st...

The prettiest time of the year for a birthday!

All my favorite blossoms were in bloom in our yard
when I brought my sweet baby girl home.

She's one of a kind!
My Mom called Kate...her golden girl.
A beautiful girl...making her way in this world.
We are very proud of her.

I found this picture of Kate when she was about 4...
playing "pirate princess" with her big brother.
It captures her determined spirit!

Starla is really Kate's cat...
...although she remains at home with Mr. Flea and me
as Kate's life in Manhattan is a bit too much for her.
Starla is saying...
Happy Birthday Kate...come home and visit me!

Our lilacs have bloomed today...
just as they did 25 years ago...
...the day Katharine Grace was born.

My Mother's deep purple double French lilacs,
My grandmother's lavender lilacs and
 Mr. Flea's grandmother's white lilacs.

Happy Birthday Kate!
Happy May Day!

A New Year, A New Attitude

2010 was a year of change.

2011 will be a year of new opportunities!

I am praying for courage
to embrace the opportunities that present themselves
and hoping that I don't let fear or doubt get in the way.

One of my favorite Christmas presents
was from my baby sister Mary Beth who scooped up some free leftovers from her church rummage sale.
She gave me an assortment of old soft covered cookbooks and a deliciously rusty blue gray enamel colander.
 LOVE them!

The old recipe cards pictured here are from an old box of cards that once belonged to a relative of Mr. Flea.
Some look pretty tasty and worth trying.
Can you believe after all the goodies we have consumed this holiday season...I am still pondering more sweets?

I wonder if this recipe works?

:)

On the road...
Hoping to get to see Mom and Dad
and the rest of my family soon!

Silver and Red

It is hard to believe that December is half over!
...and now comes the really fun part...

This old postcard is a bit rough...
but I love the image of Santa in his car and thought you would too!
Perhaps you can fix him up in Photoshop?
I would if I could...but I can't...
...so I won't!
:(

Breathe deep!
It doesn't have to be perfect...

Faith, Hope and Love

Remembering the reason for the season!

Silver Decorated Fans

Antique silver and black fans....all family pieces...

Linen with silver edging...

To see more participants in Silver Sunday visit Beth at Gypsy Fish Journal.

Well, all my cozy, crafty Saturday plans went out the window!
The window which showed that despite all the dire weather forecasts....and the blizzard like conditions just thirty miles south....we didn't get a single flake of snow!

So, Mr. Flea (hehe) decided we should get out and run some errands...
...first stop was Barnes and Nobles...I wanted to pick up another copy of Somerset Life...winter edition, the one with my little article... to give to a dear friend. There were 2 copies on the shelf....I bought them both.

Mr. Flea then drove us over to the big mall as I needed to pick out a belated birthday gift for my sweet nephew Joe...
... at that B & N there were 5 issues of Somerset Life.
Mr. Flea insisted that I buy them all. He said, "once they're gone....you'll never be able to find another and you may never be published again!"

Hey....that's not encouraging!
Actually, he is fairly supportive of my blogging and I think...maybe even a tiny bit proud.

So if you are looking for a copy of Somerset Life in my area...and you can't find one at Barnes and Nobles...now you know why!

Anyway, after the errands....we went to my sister's home and then out to dinner with my brother, Biff the plumber, his darling and oh so creative wife Donna, sweet sister Mary Beth and her handsome husband Bobbay....

...we had a ton of fun...lots of laughs.
I am very blessed to have such a loving family!

Hope your Sunday is fun....we have a very cold but sunny day!
:)
