a sweet slumber

How could you not sleep well in this bedroom designed by Kelly Wearstler for the hotel, maison 140!? It plush, luxurious and perfect blend of textures. I especially love the wood grain appearance of the wallpaper, shape of the headboard and wall of mirrors--all just divine.

layers of patterns

Serene bedrooms full of pale colors, simple pieces and casual styling are certainly desirable for relaxation but what about in the morning when you need to be energized? This tribal style bedroom full of color and layered in patterns would be the perfect room in which to jump start my day and maybe even finally get me to a hot yoga class in the morning!

noir + pastels

It is that time of the week when I am just wiped, thankfully the weekend is almost here. However, all I want to do at the moment is curl up into this bed among pastels and a black accent wall--a combination I never thought I would pine for in a bedroom.

And even though it is freezing outside right now I wouldn't mind a bit not having a rug beneath my feet when I got up--I mean I don't think I could ever cover up such lovely chevron floors.

sweet {canopy} dreams

Oh, the luxury of canopy beds-perfect for savoring the weekend and all of its simple pleasures from foamy lattes to perusing the Sunday Times. This canopy was designed by Alexandra Champalimaud and I am completely awestruck by how beautifully she combined structure with flow.

inspired afternoon nap

I feel like it is Christmas morning when a new issue of my favorite shelter magazine is released. The anticipation of the loveliness that waits inside while admiring the beautiful cover. The contents of the newest House Beautiful definitely did not fall short of expectations, especially when it comes to serene bedroom inspiration.
Love the leaning antiqued mirror behind the curtain and what a lovely shape for a headboard!

eye candy {magnolias + pom poms}

Bedrooms are such personal spaces. I love how they can reflect the dweller's personality shamelessly, as they are designed as a private escape and not for public consumption. I tend to not have girl style in most of my home but enter my bedroom and floral patterns and frills abound, which is why I just adore this magnolia and pom pom laden bedroom.

gracious {designer} glamour

I am always fascinated by the dwellings of interior designers. They are constantly bombarded by new inspiration and I just love seeing what trends they choose to replicate in their homes. I love the glamorous apartment of Paula Caravelli, of Paul and Martha Design.
The metallic gold coffee table, bold rug and stunning settee create an impeccable living space.

I am especially intrigued by the graphic artwork in the bathroom.

color + pattern

One of my first etsy crushes was Plum Cushion. Shop owner, Melanie, creates amazing pillows using designer fabrics and sells them for very reasonable prices. I was recently discovered that she write an incredibly inspirational blog that among other things features DIY projects and photos of her home. It comes as no surprise that she has impeccable taste and a beyond gorgeous home full of lively color and bold pattern...

Just the pick me up I needed to get through the rest of the day!

rest + renewal

Wow, storm clouds really are great motivation to get up and down from hiking the local buttes quickly! I just made it up one of my favorites in record time but now my body is exhausted. A nice hot soak in this lovely tiled tub sounds perfect right now.

And would I am sure I would instantly be rejuvenated after collapsing in this bedroom.

Hope you are having a lovely evening! Be back and hopefully fully recovered tomorrow.

would you go charcoal?

I have to be honest, I am not a huge fan of black as the prominent color in a space. I know that it is sexy and dramatic but it just isn't my style. I came across this bedroom and surprisingly feel in love with the dark charcoal! The white bedding and ceiling really make this space one of my new favorites. I could do without the chair though...

Would you consider such a dark color for your bedroom?

sweet slumber {cream + green}

I never thought that in the same weekend of hiking in shorts and a tank top that I would also be skiing--but this weekend that was the case and it made for an incredible one. However, I am currently just exhausted and would love to soak in this bathroom...

and then sink into this bed

subtle + subdued {seaside}

Beach themed interiors can very easily be over the top. I definitley prefer a more subtle and neutral nod to this motif and these bedrooms accomplish that perfectly.

The sandy inspired colors, well used shell adornment and driftwood touches create a serene seaside retreat.

rest+renewal

A hectic workday, the time change and deciding to start running again has left me completely wiped and longing to curl up with some tea and good book in one of these serene bedroom retreats. The soft light, neutral palette and fresh white linens make them the perfect bedrooms for rest and renewal.

soft glow of spring

Spring is almost here--the snow is melting and daffodils are now for sale in the store! I am honestly not quite ready for the ski season to be over but am very much looking forward to longer days which means rooms bathed in soft warm light...

small bedroom solutions {the basics}

My first apartment in Chicago was a studio and I absolutely adored it...even the fact that my closet became the perfect cozy bedroom. Ever since I have had a soft spot for small bedrooms. If you are lucky enough have one there are a few simple and basic tricks to make them functional and lovable. First and foremost do not ignore it just because it is small---don't be scared to invest in a lovely headboard fabric or dreamy curtains...

As in all rooms of the house--take advantage of the magic of mirrors!

Utilize all the surfaces you have--if you have a window sill maybe skip the bedside table. And consider lighting options beyond the traditional table lamp.

Go vertical with shelving and storage. And think of pieces such as bedside tables for other uses, such as a workspace or vanity.

Lastly, replace or rehinge the bedroom door. The space of a door opening into a room takes away valuable square footage!

evening eye candy {valentine's palette}

I cannot believe that Valentine's day is this weekend and I haven't even had a confection heart yet. I just love the soft pinks and reds of the holiday especially when mixed with cool silver blue hues.

not to be ignored {bedroom inspiration}

I hear it all the time--that the bedroom is the one room that people haven't focused their decorating energy on. These people, like me, have rather invested in to the public spaces of the home. However, this should not be the case--the room that one retreats to each evening for sleep and relaxation deserves the same attention if not more than other rooms in the house. Just like these..

I love their use of furniture other than a bed in a room to create one or even more cozy sitting areas...

And ones that contain a bold with mix of colors and patterns. What is most important to you in a bedroom--lighting, colors, bedding?

craving {sleeping porch}

Despite the fact that it is freezing out and snowed all day I am craving a screened in sleeping porch. I have always loved porches but just recently decided that I wanted one that I could spend not only all day in but all night! It would just be so nice to feel as though I am sleeping outdoors without the hassle of the bug bites but with the same spectacular view of the stars.

the perfect bedroom

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend! I had a lovely time playing the part of Betty Draper, but all the festivities have left me a little burnt out and dreaming about the perfect bedroom in which to recoup. This bedroom has it all--the beautiful luxury of brocade mixed with casual cozy linens and not to mention the perfect bedside vignette.

(via homes and garden)
I am now craving hanging mismatched and misaligned artwork over my bedside table and perhaps an industrial lamp!
